I'm back from School of Visual Arts, New York!

My international exchange program just ended! I’m back home, from an opportunity that helped me grow professionally, and made me, more than ever, determined to continue my experience in North America.

SVA is a multidisciplinary college of art and design known for its unparalleled faculty and innovative curriculum. I was in BFA Film, majoring in directing, but I decided to take specific classes more craft-oriented in BFA Fine Arts. My sculpting classes and my drawing classes helped me improve my skills, still with a view to working on a film set. I also had a writing & directing class, an editing class, and a career strategy one. My experience there exceeded my expectations and allowed me to see an angle of vision on this field that is very different from what ENSAV taught me in France. SVA is a pragmatic university that gives concret informations on the professional world, as well as contacts and career opportunities, where ENSAV is a school centered on the film set and on learning every skill for every specific job.

I didn’t make a short film in such a short amount of time and with no crew, but I did some fine arts creations.

These pictures are a monstrous feminine wax candle, for the “ephemeral” project.

Here is a diorama of a dog headed family that’s melting in a malefic quicksand, for the “subversive suburbia” project.

Séquence Court Métrage festival selected Fergus, Bartok & Polly and organized a projection of the film on Thursday November 18th 2021 in a screening dedicated to school films from the region Occitanie.

The website of the programmation by clicking here.

Séquence Court Métrage, is a festival that shows, since 1991 in Toulouse and Occitanie’s theaters, short films in various forms. Fiction, animation, documentaries or hybrid forms, the festival takes place every year with short films from all around the globe. This year marked the 31st edition.

I was still in New York for the screening of my film in November, so I couldn’t attend the projection, but I was glad that my short had a wider public and was shown on the big screen. Fergus, Bartok & Polly, all three of them, got to meet a new audience!

His name is Malaya

Malaya, My name is, “Mon nom c’est”, is available now on every streaming platform ! Tom, cinema student and rap musician, and Adrian, cinema student as well, gave me the editing of their music video.

See the music video now !

Tom has been a student in my class for 3 years now and he decided to launch his EP. He directed several short films, and he majored in DOP. Besides, he writes rap lyrics when he has the time.

Adrian, student in my class as well, majored in directing, like me. Tom gave him the directing part of his first music video, that was shot in September 2020.

A few months later, both trusted me with the editing of the video. My work started with the derush, with almost 7 hours of images. Their storyboard and scenario allowed me to follow a trajectory, but Adrian and Tom let me have a margin of freedom, that allowed me to emancipated from the writing and shooting process, and allowed me to be more creative.

The pros of editing this music video were to not have been there on the set. Without having seen anything during the shooting, I could delete without regrets, or even change the direction the video took, without being biased by the shooting work. I had fun editing this, especially with the abundance of sceneries : the room, the skate park, the party, the “red room”… Adrian was also loving the mixing of film material. We can see some authentic film photos, taken with an old film camera. There is also some bits shot with the Paillard-BOLEX in 16mm. On top of that, there are strong color effects, blurs, speed effects etc.

After three weeks, the music video was born ! Like an introduction to the rap world, Malaya is presenting himself and you won’t forget his name!

Mon nom c’est, by Malaya, see the music video.

Available on spotify, Apple Music & Deezer.

Fergus, Bartok & Polly was pre-selected to be in the “First Time Filmmaker” selection of the Lift-Off festival based in Pinewood, UK.

Lift-Off Global Network

First round

The festival is divided in a few steps : the first one is the pre-selection. The short will be on Vimeo On Demand for a whole week, period during which a public will vote. At the end of this, 3 winners will be announced.

The second round is a professional jury that will be choosing among the 3 selected movies.

Fergus, Bartok & Polly wasn’t selected in the top 3, but I’m already happy it was in the pre selection, which is awesome!
